OK, we admit it: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is not an exciting slogan. However, it is quite simply the best way that each of us can embody real environmentally aware behavior. And remember to think of them in that order. So, what should you do when you're done with your garment? - Wear it. And wear it out.
Keeping a product (whether it's a piece of clothing, computer, chair, cup, etc.) in its intended use as long as possible is the key to minimizing environmental impacts. By reusing a product you are helping to keep it out of the place where most things end up: the landfill or incinerator. You are also saving all the energy and resources needed to make a replacement product.
- Donate it
If the time comes that a Nau product is no longer right for you, but is still wearable, we ask that you donate it to a charity or thrift store, or to someone in your community who can make use of the product.
- Give it back
We understand that at some point (most likely a long way into the future) our product may wear out. At that point we invite you to send Nau products back to us and we will make sure they do not end up in the landfill or incinerator. Throughout the design and development stages of creating our clothing, we've put a great deal of work into ensuring they are recyclable or compostable whenever possible. As a small company producing durable, high quality items in limited numbers, we project that a very small number of products will come back to us for some period of time. We plan to hold onto those products until we have a significant enough volume to put them into a recycling or composting program. In the meantime, we are continually working with our vendors and other partners to develop and refine the recycling and composting systems for our products. To send your products to Nau for recycling, please make sure the garment is clean, and mail it to: Nau Product Afterlife Program 710 NW 14th St., First Floor Portland, OR 97209
