The Breakthrough Institute is a small think tank with big ideas, reinventing progressive and ecological politics for the next generation.
Problem:
Worldwide energy consumption is estimated to triple by 2050. As global warming demands that we massively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, how do we simultaneously meet the needs of the global poor and reduce emissions?
Program:
Breakthrough is reinventing progressive politics for the next generation. Its three-part focus is making clean energy cheap through major public investments in technology; creating a new social contract for the post-industrial age; and growing an equitable and sustainable global prosperity.
Progress:
Breakthrough Institute's Staff and Senior Fellows are crafting a clean energy agenda focused on technology innovation and commercialization. Breakthrough Generation is organizing students and local communities to build grassroots demand for federal action.
