    Favorite Outer Layer

I bought this jacket, and matching Cranky Pants, for a bicycle touring vacation in Ireland. It rained pretty much every day for 10 days, and it often rained HARD. The jacket, and pants, kept me drier than I thought possible in such conditions, and was comfortable and stylish while doing it. Since then it's become my default outer for active wear: hiking and cycling, downhill and cross country skiing in the winter. I even wear it over my leather jacket while riding my motorcycle in bad weather. It's got a nice athletic fit, but is somehow stretchy enough to fit over my race-fit motorcycle jacket.

Recently I wore it on my thru hike of the Long Trail in Vermont - about 280 miles in 19 days, with lots of elevation, and unfortunately lots of bad weather. Nothing is dry after a week of rain, but the jacket protected me from the wind, and kept my under layers from getting soaked. The hood fits well, and is peaked enough to keep rain from running down your face. The fold down flap meant to protect your butt while cycling does the same thing when you're backpacking and you want to sit on wet logs and rocks.

When I first got it I was amazed at how soft and stretchy the fabric is. I was sure the softness meant it would wear or pill very quickly. I've been so impressed with how durable this jacket has been. Even after backpacking for 3 weeks, the fabric doesn't show wear from the shoulder straps or hip belt.

I also really appreciate the fit and style. Clean lines, no logo, high soft collar, a hood that can hide away, and a close enough fit. To get this fit I often need to get a smaller size, meaning short sleeves or a high waist. A medium fits my 165lb 6'0" frame wonderfully. The cycling cut means the sleeves are longer than normal, but that means they do a great job during all sorts of activities.

This would be my perfect 5 star jacket if the pit vents were done with waterproof zips instead of just holes. I'd buy a backup of this jacket in a second if they were still available. Nau, please make with jacket again!

Perfect 3-season jacket for bike commutes

Truly breathable rain jacket. Perfect for cool spring and autumn weather. When the weather gets in that in-between seasons zone, I like to put on a wicking long sleeve underneath and I'm good to go with just the jacket. Great windproof properties too.

I like the knit feel of the textile, softer and more approachable. Also doesn't make loud swishy noises. I love to wear this to bike to my local beer garden and to hang outdoors.

Nice minimal design. I Appreciate the rear reflective flap and the reach zip pocket. It's large enough to fit a paperback!.

    Beautiful jacket

Just about everything is terrific with the Cranky. Fabric is light, waterproof, and stretches when needed. Fit and features for cyclists abound - long sleeves cover wrists when stretched out, long tail for butt protection can fold out even longer with reflective strips for nighttime. Hood fits well. Pockets well thought out too. My only gripe is the main zipper is difficult to fully zip and unzip due to the asymmetrical design. Maybe it will improve with use. I'd say it's a style choice that simply doesn't function well.

Seems like a good jacket with odd features

Just bought this jacket and seems like a really good one for the price. Was expecting pit zips not just under arm "holes". Does anyone know what the inside flap that flips down over the buttocks is for? Also, there is an odd pocket on the outside that falls just below my lower back... Cannot comment on performance as yet but am hoping it is good in the rain.

    Perfect minimal design

The fit of this jacket is excellent. Subtle details and minimal design make it look great even when you aren't riding so it's perfect for a commuter. It seems to be very well made and has a perfect supple, breathable waterproof material. It's very lightweight so it's great for layering - on chillier days just add an extra layer or use it with just a jersey or t-shirt on warmer days. Overall this is a perfect Nau product.
